Shelley Smith

Shelley Smith is a senior music major at Skidmore College. She began playing the flute at the age of 10 and cites her primary teachers as Jan Vinci and Wendy Matthews. Shelley has participated in masterclasses with Paula Robison, Linda Chesis, Kenneth Andrews, George Pope and Louis Moyse through both Skidmore College and summer programs. Other workshops include BU’s Tanglewood Institute with Doriot Anthony Dwyer, Pantasmagoria with Robert Dick, Wissam Boustany and Peter Lloyd, and Le Domain Forget with Mathieu Dufour and William Bennett.
Shelley is an active member of the Skidmore College music department, participating in numerous chamber ensembles, musical theater productions, and the college orchestra, with whom she will perform the first movement of the Mozart Concerto in G major on March 4, 2006. She teaches several area flute students and occasionally plays at weddings and other local events. Shelley has held positions on the counseling/student assistant staff at the Skidmore Summer Flute Institute and Hartwick College Summer Music Institute. She plans to pursue a graduate degree in music performance in the fall.
